All about Mountainair, New Mexico!
Mountainair, located on Abo Pass between the Rio Grande and the Estancia Valley is a ranching and farming community near ancient Indian country. 2003 marked Mountainair’s 100th anniversary as a High Desert New Mexico Community. Although Mountainair has grown a bit over the last decade, the Town still is a wonderful place to raise a family, start a business, pursue a life-long hobby in retirement and in many ways … get away from it all. Small in population, the entire Mountainair area tops 1600 full-time residents.
Mountainair Nearby Attractions
Plenty to see and do right around Mountainair including the Cibola National Forest, the Chupadera Mesa, Manzano State Park, Willard Cantina & Restaurant and the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monuments which include the 17th Century Spanish Franciscan Churches: Abo ruins at Salinas, the church of San Gregorio de Abo, the Quarai ruins at Salinas, the church of Nuestra Señora de la Purisima Concepcion de Cuarac and the Gran Quivera ruins at Salinas. These missions are called the Cities that Died of Fear because they were abandoned by both Spaniard and Pueblo Indian in the wake of starvation from drought and hostile Apache raids.

Mountainair remains an excellent value considering all it offers. Property values in many New Mexico communities have risen to the point that they are no longer affordable except for the very wealthy. Although average costs of new home construction and resale homes increased the past decade, the prices in the Mountainair area still much lower compared to similar New Mexico communities like Taos, Ruidoso and Sante Fe.

An incredibly diverse topography surrounds Mountainair in every direction … the Manzano Mountains, the Chupadera Mesa, the Cibloa National Forest and other sublime mesas stretch out into the horizons makes for a never ending change of scenery as you travel our corner of the world.
